As a lot of people probably remember, these attacks triggered to the U.S. wage a war. As I probably was a teenager, I remember I watched that the media kept doubting the validity of this war. I am wondering how other countries’ media treat the war.
The book that I am currently reading, Sway, referred to Lydon B. Johnson and George W. Bush as examples of psychological force, the pull of commitment. Both began the Vietnam War and War in Afghanistan respectively and were swayed in their decision from rational judgment. Their speeches had the eerie resemblance of exuberant optimism. One thing I learned from it is that the start of war would never be a good decision.
多くの人が多分覚えていると思いますが、この９・１１の攻撃が米国がひとつの戦争を開始するきっかけとなりました。私はおそらく10代だったと思うんですが、メディアがこの戦争の正当性に懐疑的な報道を続けていたのをよく覚えています。あなたの国ではどうでしたか？
私が今読んでいる本、Swayでは、心理的な力の一つ、コミットメントの引力の例として、Lyndon B. JohnsonとGeorge W. Bushに言及しています。どちらもベトナム戦争とアフガニスタン戦争をそれぞれ開始したわけですが、二人は心理的な力に影響され合理的な判断から遠ざかってしまいました。彼らのスピーチを聞くと、あふれんばかりの楽観主義の不気味な類似性をみることができると言います。ここから私が学んだことの一つは、戦争の開始は決して良い決断にはならないということです。
